After gathering 1,300 students to compete at the City of Lagos Monopoly, Lagos State has successfully broken the world record for the “Most People Playing Monopoly” – a record previously held by Universal Studio in Singapore where 605 people gathered to compete on March 19, 2016.
The competition which was organized by Bestman Games took place at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.
Mini Akinkugbe, the CEO of Bestman Games, said she didn’t expect such a large turnout, even though the aim was to break the world record.
“What we have here is indescribable, we have witnessed a record set in Lagos and this will go down in the history of the sport.
“We have exceeded our target but we do not want to deny anybody participation. So, we have to accommodate everybody until there is no space to contain them.’’
Catherine Bickersteth, a co-sponsor, said she hopes to see the winner of the competition represent Nigeria at the World Championships.
The winner gets a cash prize of N500,000 and a slot at the next edition while the second and third get N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.
